June 2009

Hello, hello!

It’s finally summertime, and the ranch is in full swing.  During the week and weekends we have a constant stream of schools and scouts visiting the barn to take lessons, go on a few trail rides, and learn about horses.  Since our last newsletter we’ve finished some huge changes, additions, and renovations at the barn.  Thankfully, we will have everything done by the start of camp!  So far- our pastures have been expanded and will now be home to only 22 horses, we’ve finished the tack room and all of my new English tack has arrived (see photo), and we are in the process of leveling 2 of the arenas and installing new footing.  As I’m typing this dump trucks and an enormous front-end loader are driving past!  We also finished tearing out all of the old hitching posts and have converted that area into a third arena for our trail riders to mount up in.  Now all we need is for camp to start!!

At this time, all of my private riding lessons are wrapping up until fall.  My riders: Alia (see photo), Brianna, Katelyn, Ashleigh, Tiffani, Kara, Brooke, Hailey, and McKenna (and Anita, Chrysoula, Kim, and Hailey who aren’t quite finished yet) all got some great rides in, and I’m very proud of all the progress we’ve made.  These girls are all wonderful riders, and I hope to see everyone again in the fall!  Please check back towards the end of the summer for the next available lesson dates.

I’d also like to give a warm Circle C welcome to another new addition to our resident herd- Rain!  This is Rain’s second summer here, and after this she’s going to live out her very long life here doing some light work and taking it easy.  I don’t think she’s quite ready for retirement yet- Rain gets pretty upset if we leave her in the pasture, and even decided to escape and tag along on a trail ride the other day!  She is an ancient, wrinkly, spunky little paint pony who looks sort of like a gremlin but has a heart of solid gold.  Originally a rescue, Rain is now fat as can be and we’ve discovered she loves Frosted Flakes and small children!  She’s a wonderful pony for those first-time riders, and we hope you all get to meet her this season.

I hope to see you all soon!  Horsefully yours,

Charlie
