Returning counselors and mission team members are looking forward to re-connecting with our campers and their families with our Annual Phone-A-Thon May 7th, 9th, and 11th.

Michigan Y Camp Month involves 16 Michigan YMCA Camps networking together in celebration and promotion of high quality and mission-driven Y camps.  Facebook has served as a valuable medium for campers young and old to truly learn the value of a summer camp experience through storytelling. Or to stay in touch and continue the friendships started and/or nurtured at camp.

As the kickoff for Michigan Y Camp Month, Shannon Raab, Camp Copneconic Day Camp Director, launched her YouTube career by sharing the traditional art of S’more making. Campers young and old will enjoy this tutorial from a seasoned pro around the campfire.

YMCA Camp Copneconic is where campers shape their lives … one summer at a time!  This is our mantra. It’s what we stand for. To shape the lives of children through friendship, leadership skills, first-time experiences, new skills, and of course fun and memories.  The summer of 2012 guarantees a medley of tweaks and enhancements that will help to build upon an already established culture of excellence.

Halloween mini campIt’s the spookiest time of year here at Camp Copneconic, and we are celebrating it with our first-ever Halloween Mini Camp (October 28-30)!  Campers will have a chance to see camp in the fall, participate in classic camp activities, and see some old summer friends including some summer 2011 counselors! This is also a great opportunity for Day Campers to “test out” an overnight experience before next summer!

end of summerThe summer of 2011 was one for the memory books!  Director of Summer Camps, Ryan Hove, couldn’t have been happier with the strength of staff, breadth of programs, and most of all, the quality of campers that made Camp so special.  As one of our Counselor-In-Training participants said, “Camp Copneconic is a place where you can just be yourself.” It is campers like this and our amazing staff who truly understand the magic of camp. They help create the caring and fun atmosphere that attracts more and more children to camp every year.

TristanCamp Copneconic, it’s not just a camp. It’s a place where everyone gets to become who they want to be. They become the person they can’t become back home. People outside of camp might think getting a little crazy and acting weird is a bad thing, but it’s actually a great thing for people. They get to have fun; they see the world in a new perspective.

Carly GroverCamp Copneconic is the place to be for all kids of all ages. Not just because the staff are amazing and the activities are great but because of your camp experience. For all the new and returning campers, Copneconic is the place to be.

When I first went to camp in 2009 as a first year counsellor from England, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect…would camp be for me? I was also nervous about meeting a whole new group of people. After one week of camp it felt as though I’d known everybody for months on end. I have just finished my second year and will be going back in the summer for a third.

I have heard people describe driving down camp road as feeling like returning to a second home.   The Camp Copneconic that I first experienced was a place with dinner in the Allen Lodge and tractor rides around the ranch.  While on a father-daughter program, I experienced arts and crafts, shooting my first bow-and-arrow and sang songs that I remember to this day.  My dad and I still laugh at and recall the lyrics to our favorite camp song “O’ Tom the Toad (Why Are You Lying in the Road?)”
