International Counselors Bring Excitement to Camp

As the Director of Summer Camps, I have the unique opportunity to meet and interview a lot of amazing young people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. A big highlight of this process is traveling across the pond to England every February to Camp America’s London Camp Placement Fair. It is here that we recruit and select our international staff from the United Kingdom.

Our international staff play a huge part in the fun, education, and excitement of camp. They share their love for working with children, their specialized talents, their passion for adventure, and bring a taste of culture from the United Kingdom into Camp Copneconic, U.S.A. Plus, the kids really enjoy their great accents as well.

The London Camp Placement Fair is Camp America’s oldest and longest running fair and always draws a big crowd. This year I joined over 80 other camps from all over the US. Each year the fair tends to grow and this year did not disappoint as there were over 2,000 UK university students that attended.

My goal was to hire counselors who were considered the ‘Cream-of-the-Crop’ in international staff. Camp Copneconic is always an attractive destination because of our strong reputation and diverse programs, so qualified candidates were abounding.

I am excited to report back that we hired eight international staff (four male and four female) that are probably our most energetic and passionate group to-date. They come with diverse backgrounds working with youth ranging from volunteering in primary schools, drama programs, coaching sports teams and aquatic experiences.

As I gear up for summer camp, I will be hard at work preparing our great staff (international and domestic) to work with all of your wonderful campers. All of us at Copneconic are very excited for another great summer season and cannot wait to get started.
