Our Equine Programs provide a challenging and exciting environment for campers to build confidence a
nd have fun. When horseback riding is selected as an activity, our staff considers the rider’s skill, confidence, and size when assigning the proper mounts, riding groups, and instructors. In all lessons, our staff puts the safety of the rider and the happiness of the horse first, which is why all participants are required to wear ASTM/SEI certified helmets (provided by Camp).
The Circle C Ranch has two large riding arenas (110’x160’ and 110’x175’), which are watered for dust control. This allows multiple groups of riders to participate at the same time. We also have a contained saddling area with tie racks that holds up to 30 horses at a time, with tack located nearby at the barn. Instructors are assigned to the “hitching and tacking area” to assist campers with their horses as needed. Our barn has several stalls, two attached run-ins, a large hayloft, a tack room, and an office with a refrigerator. The surrounding forest has miles of trails.
We house our horses in a large, gender-separated pasture and several smaller turnouts and pens with shelter for protection from the elements. All horses receive quality grass hay, supplements, and grain according to need. Our facilities are constantly monitored for repair, safety and cleanliness.
We are unable to accommodate riders that have broken bones, severe injuries, are pregnant, or have any other medical condition that could compromise their safety or another’s, or riders over 225 pounds. People with knee, hip, or back problems that cannot support their weight upon dismounting should consult with their physicians. Staffs are not able to lift riders off of horses. People who do not dress appropriately for the sport will not be permitted to ride. Horseback riding is a mentally and physically demanding sport. It requires good balance, coordination, and the ability to follow instructions and remain focused during lessons. Please understand that the Circle C Ranch is not specifically certified or trained to work with riders with disabilities.
Riders need to come dressed to ride. This involves long pants or riding breeches, appropriate outerwear for the weather conditions, and boots. Boots should have a heel, but one no greater than one inch. Ideally they should cover the ankle as well. Helmets are provided, but riders are welcome to bring their own so long as it’s ASTM/SEI Certified. Riding gloves are recommended. Riders who do not come dressed appropriately will not be allowed to ride, and may reschedule when permitted.
